E-mail lists have become a widely used tool for activists to share ideas, and information, as well as to facilitate internal discussions. Many groups turn to seemingly free corporate services like Yahoogroups, however the price of these options lies in privacy and security. There is a wide range of things that corporate services do with your list info, from mining your list for marketable data, to allowing government officials to read archives.
Often people overlook the fact that when they turn to Yahoo or Google they are not only compromizing the privacy and security of their users but they also are ignoring the work of their own activist community.
Interactivist as well as dozens of other groups provide list services. We feel it is important to support local, community based servers. This way a group can know what they are getting, and who they are getting it from. As well it supports and fosters the growth of non-corporate, community based projects.
Interactivist hosts free E-mail lists for various activist groups, and organizations. To request a list for your group please send an E-mail to info@interactivist.net telling us who your group is, what kind of work you do, estimated size of list, and E-mail address of primary contact/ list administrator. Interactivist comes to consensus on each list that we host, so response may take a little while, and follow-up questions may be asked of groups/people we do not know and/or have never worked with.
List archives are available only to list members. Subscriber addresses are available only to list administrators.
Lists served on our system must comply with our privacy policy which states, in part, that no email addresses or other list information will be sold, rented, shared, or exchanged to any third-party for any reason.
